Static and unrelated social roles

  • Fragmented images of social roles
  • Undefined societal roles
  • Compartmentalized social tasks

Claim

  1. There is no effective vehicle in society for relating diverse social groups to the common direction of society as a whole. In addition the roles which an individual may play in the different areas of his life, as in his job, his family, and in different social and cultural groups, are in no way related to each other. This results in social roles becoming static. Individuals have no means of relating their own social roles with those of others. There is no feeling whatsoever of the meaning of, or the relationship among, these roles in global terms.
