Analytical consciousness

The internalization of the experience of the closed boundaries around objects leads to a way of thinking which naturally emphasizes distinction and separation. Because of characteristic externality of such solid bodies, this way of thinking is necessarily analytical. It is also sequential and linear, proceeding from one element to another in a linear fashion. It is the elements that are related that stand out in this form of experience, with the relationships themselves but a shadowy abstraction. This mode is also associated with language, especially in terms of the subject-predicate features of grammar, which have the effect of dividing experience into separate elements. Because language is transparent in the act of disclosing the world, this encourages belief that the world is divided in the way provided in any given language. In emphasizing linearity, this mode is unable to acknowledge effectively the pattern of non-linear relationships between the elements of experience.

Associated with the left hemisphere of the brain and viewed as complementary to the holistic mode associated with the right hemisphere of the brain.
