Holistic consciousness

A non-linear, simultaneous, intuitive mode of awareness, concerned more with relationships than with the discrete elements that are related. Relationships are experienced as real in themselves, whilst the elements related are experienced as of lesser significance. It is associated functionally with intuition, a-rational and holistic knowledge, perceptions of timelessness, simultaneity, and with visual, spatial structuring. Its aim is to synthesize new, whole patternings from the pieces of data at its disposal. Metaphorically, this kind of consciousness is associated with non-linear and lateral thinking; and with creativity in general. It is a way of seeing that can only be experienced in its own terms.

Associated with the right hemisphere of the brain and viewed as complementary to the verbal-analytical mode associated with the left hemisphere of the brain.
