Using internet to seek global support

Implementation

In Mexico, the leader of the rebel Zapista National Liberation Army has circulated his communiques worldwide via Internet bulletin boards such as PeaceNet, in order to mobilize international support. The strategy has proved highly effective. Other groups involved in conflict or disaster situations have also used the internet to disseminate information and opinion around the world. For instance, despite universally nasty media, Canadian aboriginal rebels involved in the 1995 protest at Gustafsen Lake, British Columbia, used the Net to win international support. A critic of US-military aggression used the internet to get information in and out of Bosnia, even during wartime.

Claim

  1. The Internet is the most important information channel through which to spread information and opinion around the world in real time.
