Providing biosystematic consultation
- Supplying support for biodiversity planning
Description
Providing biosystematic consultation involves offering expert guidance on the classification, identification, and management of biological organisms to address challenges in biodiversity conservation, agriculture, and environmental management. This strategy ensures accurate species identification, informs policy decisions, and supports sustainable resource use by resolving taxonomic uncertainties. By facilitating informed decision-making, biosystematic consultation remedies issues such as invasive species control, habitat restoration, and the protection of endangered species, thereby promoting effective ecosystem management.
Implementation
The BioNET International Consultative Group provides biosystematic support for developing country programmes designed in accordance with Agenda 21 and the Biodiversity Convention of UNCED. It does this by mobilizing and pooling the world's resources and expertise in biosystematics of invertebrates and microorganisms in order to establish and sustain capabilities in developing country sub-regions to support national programmes for sustainable agricultural development and conservation and wise use of the environment and biodiversity through interlinked sub-regional Technical Cooperation Networks, functioning as LOOPS of BioNET-International.
