Monitoring provision of household services

Implementation

In 1992, a group of grassroots and professional women from Africa, Asia and Latin America were undertaking research on women's participation in the human settlements development process. They made the discovery that the number of school-age girls not attending school was an indicator of the absence of services, especially water. Where services are lacking and women find it difficult to cope, girls are pulled out of school to help their mothers.
