Fostering regional cooperation on specialized information services involves establishing collaborative networks and shared platforms among countries or organizations within a region to exchange, harmonize, and disseminate targeted data and expertise. This strategy addresses gaps in information access, reduces duplication of effort, and enhances resource efficiency. By pooling knowledge and standardizing practices, it enables timely, relevant decision-making and supports coordinated responses to regional challenges, ultimately strengthening the capacity and resilience of participating entities.
Implementation
UNESCO's programme includes the following: fostering regional cooperation regarding specialized information services, systems and networks in the fields of education, socio-economic development and environment protection.
The Committee 'Information Policies and Programmes (FID/IP)' of the International Federation for Information and Documentation works to identify and promote research in the appropriate aspects of national and regional information policies and programmes to monitor (international) developments in the field.
