Formulating women's policy
- Highlighting women's issues
Description
Formulating women's policy involves developing and implementing targeted strategies to address gender-specific inequalities and barriers faced by women. This process includes assessing women's needs, setting clear objectives, and enacting legal, economic, and social measures to promote equal opportunities, protection, and empowerment. The practical intent is to remedy discrimination, improve access to resources and decision-making, and ensure women's rights are integrated into all levels of policy-making and societal development.
Implementation
An analysis of women's issues has been made by the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, in particular the draft Platform for Action (annex to resolution 38/10, 18 March 1994) and other documents. There has also been considerable work done by various parties in preparation for the Beijing 4th Women's Conference in 1995.
