Exchanging information on alternative livelihoods
Description
Exchanging information on alternative livelihoods involves systematically sharing practical knowledge, skills, and resources to help individuals and communities transition from unsustainable or harmful economic activities to more viable, sustainable options. This strategy enables stakeholders to access proven methods, market opportunities, and support networks, directly addressing issues such as poverty, environmental degradation, and economic vulnerability by facilitating informed decision-making and empowering people to adopt resilient, diversified sources of income.
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends promoting exchange and sharing of information concerning development of alternative livelihoods with other agro-ecological regions.
