Conserving polar bears

  • Protecting species of Ursus maritimus

Implementation

The International Treaty on Polar Bears was signed by all polar countries in 1973.  It bans unrestricted hunting of polar bears. The polar bear population has increased from 6,000 to 8,000 in 1973 to 30,000 to 50,000 in 2022.
