Nature

Rickets is a disease that affects bone growth—producing soft and weak bones—in children and adolescents. It is usually caused by an extreme and prolonged lack of vitamin D. There are other rare genetic problems that can also cause rickets.

Incidence

This is an extremely rare disease, usually amounting to less than 1,000 cases per year in the US.
