In the field of world heritage conservation, the UN World Heritage Committee has three times found itself involved with Australian nominations to the World Heritage List which were politically charged: Lake Pedder (Tasmania) in the 1970s, Queensland Tropical Rain Forests in the 1980s, and Jabiluka in the late 1990s.
