Insects consume and destroy large quantities of food stuffs.

Historical records from ancient Egypt and China document early awareness, but it was not until the 19th and 20th centuries—amid rising food insecurity and scientific advances—that the scale and complexity of insect pest problems were systematically recognized, prompting international research collaborations and coordinated management efforts.

In the USA, about 500 species of insects are of primary economic importance and losses caused by them range from US$ 4,000 million to $8,000 million annually.

Claim

Insect pests are a critical and urgent problem that threatens global food security, public health, and economic stability. Their rapid reproduction and resistance to control measures devastate crops, spread deadly diseases, and cause billions in losses annually. Ignoring this issue risks catastrophic consequences for both human populations and ecosystems. Immediate, coordinated action is essential to combat insect pests before their impact becomes even more severe and irreversible. This is a crisis we cannot afford to overlook.

Frankly, the concern over insect pests is vastly overblown. Insects have existed alongside humans for millennia, and their impact is minimal compared to real global issues like climate change or poverty.
