Differences in sexual activity

  • Excessive sexual desire by one partner
  • Sexual incompatibility

Claim

  1. Sexual activity that appears to be excessive on a statistical basis but is non-injurious to the health of the practitioners, is morally condemned in many societies, although its expression may be normal or even confined within the marital relationship. A partner, therefore, of whom additional sexual activity is requested, may regard it as immoral or unnatural and refuse compliance. In marriage this can lead to the failure of the union, and it can also be an obstacle to matrimony when encountered during courtship. Depending on age, health and temperament a small percentage of normal people may require or be accustomed to daily sexual activity, or, occasionally, to several such activities in a single day. In these cases they are also likely to need variety, and thus the frequency and variation of the acts may be notable, especially if partners are changed and the private practitioner is exposed. He or she may be slandered as being promiscuous or perverted, and social standing or even careers can be destroyed. Where there are underlying psychological problems among highly sexually active persons their conditions may be described as nymphomania or satyriasis.
