Using man-machine systems

Description

Using systems in which there is some interaction between man (usually the operator or controller) and a machine requiring that analysis of the operations of the system take into account the psychological and behavioural characteristics of individuals functioning as interfaces with the hardware portions of the total system.

Landmark studies in human factors and systems engineering during the 1950s and 1960s underscored the strategic necessity of optimizing these interactions, influencing sectors from manufacturing to defense.
