At the request of the Government of Tuvalu, the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC) funded the services of a Civil Aviation advisor to help upgrade the country's only airport, on Funafuti atoll, from a coral and grass strip to a fully sealed, all-weather runway with a parking area and terminal building. Tuvalu's air transport sector has developed significantly since the adviser started work in 1990.
