An intellectual, of whatever origin, tends to develop a comprehensive conceptual map and an inclusive and exclusive set of terms for thinking and talking about policy and society. In principle, however, these concepts can be treated as abstract equivalencies of other maps, and the terms can be expanded, contracted, or supplemented by others.
