Supplying nuclear materials

Description

Supplying nuclear materials involves the controlled provision and distribution of radioactive substances for use in energy production, medical applications, research, and industry. This strategy ensures secure, traceable, and regulated transfer to authorized entities, addressing risks of proliferation, theft, and environmental harm. Effective supply mechanisms support global safety standards, facilitate technological advancement, and enable critical services, while implementing safeguards and monitoring systems to prevent misuse and promote responsible stewardship of nuclear resources.

Implementation

The design and construction of the nuclear part of the French pressurized water reactors (PWR) and fast breeder reactors (FBR) is carried out by Framatome. In 1994, it has eight PWR units under construction, two for the People's Republic of China. It is also developing (with Siemens of Germany as the consortium Nuclear Power International) a new European Pressurized Reactor (EPR).
