Strengthening science and technology to protect vulnerable groups

  • Protecting human rights with technological development

Implementation

This strategy featured in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Claim

  1. Educational, health and research institutions should be strengthened to provide support to improve the health of vulnerable groups. Social research on the specific problems of these groups should be expanded and methods for implementing flexible pragmatic solutions explored with emphasis on preventive measures. Technical support should be provided to governments, institutions and organizations of youth, women, and indigenous peoples and people under occupation, and to non-governmental organizations in the health sector.
