Strengthening the family to prevent alcoholism
Description
Strengthening the family to prevent alcoholism involves fostering supportive relationships, open communication, and healthy role modeling within the household. This strategy aims to reduce risk factors by promoting parental involvement, setting clear expectations about alcohol use, and providing emotional support. Practical actions include family education programs, early intervention for at-risk members, and creating environments that encourage positive behaviors, thereby addressing underlying issues and building resilience against the development of alcohol dependency.
Implementation
Families Anonymous (FA) is a fellowship of relatives and friends of people in trouble with drugs, alcohol or related behavioural problems. It is a self-help organization with a programme based on the 12 Steps and the 12 Traditions first formulated by Alcoholics Anonymous. FA focuses on the member's recovery (or change in attitudes and reactions) from co-dependency, denial, enabling, rescuing, and controlling and manipulating. Members provide mutual support and offer a forum where experiences and anxiety can be shared.
