Sharing water resource management knowledge
Description
Sharing water resource management knowledge involves systematically exchanging practical information, best practices, and technical expertise among stakeholders to improve the sustainable use, allocation, and protection of water resources. This strategy addresses challenges such as scarcity, pollution, and inefficient usage by facilitating capacity-building, informed decision-making, and collaborative problem-solving. Effective knowledge sharing remedies gaps in local expertise, supports adaptation to changing conditions, and enhances the implementation of integrated water management solutions across regions and sectors.
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends sharing appropriate knowledge and technology, both for the collection of data and for the implementation of planned development, including non-polluting technology and the knowledge needed to extract the best performance from the existing investment system.
