Reducing marginalization of women's labour
Description
Reducing marginalization of women's labour involves implementing policies and practices that ensure equal access to employment, fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for advancement. This strategy addresses discrimination, informal work, and undervaluation by promoting legal protections, skills training, childcare support, and representation in decision-making. Its practical intent is to integrate women fully into the workforce, remedy economic disparities, and enhance social and economic development through the recognition and empowerment of women’s contributions.
Context
An increase in flexible forms of employment has coincided with the growth of women's participation on the labour market in many countries. A new pattern of labour segmentation is emerging in which women tend to predominate in working arrangements such as casual work, part-time work, subcontracting, home-based work. In many cases this pattern constitutes gender-based inequality.
