Recycling consumer appliances
Description
Recycling consumer appliances involves systematically collecting, dismantling, and processing used electronic and household devices to recover valuable materials and safely manage hazardous components. This strategy aims to reduce landfill waste, conserve natural resources, and prevent environmental pollution by ensuring responsible disposal and material reuse. Effective recycling programs address issues of resource scarcity, toxic substance leakage, and inefficient waste management, providing practical solutions for sustainable consumption and minimizing the ecological footprint of modern consumer lifestyles.
Implementation
Of the 620,000 tonnes of household electrical appliances discarded by consumers in Japan, 110,000 tonnes was recovered and processed by local governments and 510,000 tonnes was recovered by dealers.
