The increase in the number of immigrants and refugees to the USA has resulted in the need for culturally sensitive programmes for certain groups of women. The Asian Women's Shelter in San Francisco, California, has developed specialized services in twelve Asian languages and dialects. Such programmes have been key to reaching large numbers of refugee and immigrant women who are among the most isolated and vulnerable.
