Providing regional data bank on agriculture
Description
Providing a regional data bank on agriculture involves systematically collecting, organizing, and disseminating localized agricultural data to support informed decision-making. This strategy addresses issues such as fragmented information, inefficiencies, and knowledge gaps by offering accessible, up-to-date resources on crops, climate, soil, and market trends. The practical intent is to empower farmers, policymakers, and researchers with reliable data, thereby improving productivity, resource management, and resilience to challenges such as pests, diseases, and climate variability.
Implementation
The International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (Nairobi, Kenya) provides an agroforestry information sub-network for the Semi-Arid Lowlands of West Africa with four national focal points in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Senegal The network is provided with the necessary training and computer facilities to organize and disseminate their information.
