Procuring basic equipment
- Developing equipment procurement competence
- Procuring suitable small equipment
Description
Procuring basic equipment involves identifying, sourcing, and acquiring essential tools and devices necessary for the effective functioning of organizations, communities, or projects. This strategy addresses operational inefficiencies, safety risks, and productivity barriers caused by inadequate or outdated equipment. By ensuring access to appropriate and reliable resources, it enables the implementation of solutions, supports capacity-building, and enhances resilience, particularly in resource-limited settings or emergency situations where timely and suitable equipment is critical.
Implementation
ILO provides a service to developing countries and to lending and development agencies through the procurement of technical cooperation and related services, including the establishment of documentary material and equipment planning guides. Advisory services are provided to build up procurement competence in developing countries. Activities include: identification of equipment requirements; screening of equipment requests; identification of new sources of supply; tendering; bid evaluation; placement of purchase orders; monitoring of timely and correct delivery; transport-related arrangements; follow-up insurance claims; and briefings.
