Preserving social inequality
- Using social inequality
- Using social underdevelopment
Description
Preserving social inequality involves maintaining existing disparities in wealth, status, and access to resources through policies, institutional practices, and cultural norms. This strategy aims to uphold established hierarchies by limiting social mobility, restricting opportunities for marginalized groups, and reinforcing privilege. Practical actions include selective education, biased recruitment, and unequal legal protections, which collectively address the interests of dominant groups while impeding efforts to remedy discrimination, poverty, and social exclusion.
Implementation
Since the collapse of the former Soviet Union, numbers of unemployed Finns have taken to living in Estonia. It is a short ferry ride from Helsinki to Tallin. Since the present unemployment benefit in Finland is paid at 60% of the recipient's previous wage, they can live in a wage bracket somewhat higher than that of the Estonian prime minister.
