Description

Preserving musical heritage involves systematically identifying, documenting, safeguarding, and transmitting traditional and contemporary musical forms, practices, and artifacts. This strategy addresses the loss of cultural identity, extinction of rare musical expressions, and erosion of intergenerational knowledge by supporting archives, education, community engagement, and digital preservation. It ensures that diverse musical traditions remain accessible and relevant, fostering cultural continuity and resilience against globalization, neglect, and technological obsolescence.

Implementation

The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres aims to further the bibliographical control of music collections of all kinds; support the protection and preservation of musical documents of past and present; cooperate with other international and national organizations in the fields of music, musicology, librarianship, archival science, and documentation.
