Musician

A person who is skilled in music, especially one practising it professionally. The musician may be one who uses music to enhance individual self-discovery or a community's ability to bind itself together. The musician may write songs or music, may conduct, may play musical instruments, or may have access to a variety of tapes or records. He or she may have ways to encourage other people to express themselves musically, making instruments, jointly writing musical pieces or performing together. They may be entertainers, or be able to evoke moods or emotions. They may be the centre of an event, or provide the accompaniment to another event, e.g. a party, a gathering, a play. The musician may thus be present at social marking events, such as births, marriages, rites of passage or death. The musician may provide means of communication, e.g. drums.
