Modifying climate

Experimenting with local and global weather and climate system, for example to increase or decrease precipitation; increase or suppress hail, lightning or fog; and direct or divert storm systems.

Proposed climate engineering for mitigating the greenhouse effect include screening the Earth's atmosphere from the Sun's rays by deploying some form of shield in space, and altering the reflectivity of the Earth's surface by spreading reflecting material over it.

1. Climate engineering may be economically viable but is unacceptable because of the unpredictability of successful outcomes and potential dangerous side-effects. In particular the development of weather modification for military purposes creates a threat to peace and world order, because of their relative covertness and widespread potential for devastating impact on a target area and possibly on global weather patterns.
