Mobilizing financial resources for health
- Creating funds for health services
Description
Mobilizing financial resources for health involves securing and allocating adequate funding to ensure accessible, equitable, and sustainable health services. This strategy targets gaps in health financing by diversifying funding sources, improving efficiency in resource use, and strengthening financial management systems. Practical actions include increasing government health budgets, leveraging international aid, fostering public-private partnerships, and implementing innovative financing mechanisms, all aimed at remedying underfunding, reducing financial barriers, and improving health outcomes.
Implementation
There are a number of ways for the international community to mobilize more financial resources for health. Coordinated sector-wide pledging at consultative group meetings and donor roundtables has been used successfully in countries such as Tanzania and Zambia. Another approach is programme-specific pledging, as illustrated by dozens of national AIDS-control donor meetings chaired by WHO. Debt-for-development swaps have also been used.
