Making reparation

Description

Reparation is an appropriate response to gross violations of human rights. According to international legal principles, reparation has five parts: (1) acknowledgement of the truth and an apology; (2) guarantees that these human rights will not be breached again; (3) returning what has been lost as much as possible (know as restitution); (4) rehabilitation; and (5) compensation.

Claim

Making reparation is a crucial strategy for healing past injustices and building a just society. Ignoring historical wrongs perpetuates inequality and division. Genuine reparations foster trust, accountability, and meaningful reconciliation, helping communities move forward together. It is not enough to acknowledge harm; we must actively address and repair it. Only through sincere reparative action can we create lasting change and ensure dignity and fairness for all. Anything less is unacceptable.
