Improving media image of developing countries
Description
Improving the media image of developing countries involves actively promoting accurate, diverse, and positive representations in international and local media. This strategy addresses stereotypes and misinformation by supporting local content creation, facilitating media training, and fostering partnerships with global outlets. The practical aim is to enhance public perception, attract investment and tourism, and empower local communities by ensuring their stories and achievements are fairly and widely communicated.
Implementation
The 1993 Annenberg Washington Program held two roundtables with producers, editors, reporters, and members of relief organizations to analyse the impact of images of the developing world portrayed through the media and by the relief organizations. The roundtables sought to identify specific and practical strategies for the media and relief organizations to upgrade the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of the information they disseminate about the developing world.
