  1. Knowledge of the location of people and places is a precondition for understanding local, regional, national and global interdependence. In the context of problems facing humanity, the right to high quality geographical education encourages both a balanced regional and nation identity and a commitment to international and global perspectives. Geographical education promotes understanding, tolerance and friendship amongst all nations, racial and religious groups and furthers the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
