- Establishment
- Established church
- Political complex
- Vested interest groups
Description
Designating groups whose common interest is preserving the status quo as concerning their own wealth and power. Abusing the common values of groups committed to effective economic, social and political power.
Context
Used by revolutionaries since the beginning of the 20th century to attract people to action toward the reorganization of society.
Implementation
The strategy has been put to use to subvert the power of, and respect for, the ecclesiastical, political, economic and other structures of society by calling them self-serving, self-perpetuating institutions.
Claim
The strategy promotes the courage or spirit of those who feel themselves powerless or dispossessed. It encourages them to organize as a force for social change.
Counter-claim
Any group whose common interest is the preservation of some positive values in society may become a target for abuse. The implied result is the weakening of the social fabric. This promotes the disregard of custom and usage in society, and hence anarchy.
