Supporting young mothers

Description

Helping mothers involves providing targeted support and resources to address the unique challenges faced by mothers, such as access to healthcare, childcare, education, and economic opportunities. This strategy aims to improve maternal well-being, reduce health risks, and empower mothers to care for their families effectively. Practical actions include offering maternal health services, parental leave, financial assistance, and community support networks, directly remedying issues like maternal mortality, poverty, and social isolation.

Implementation

GROOTS, Women, Home and Community Super Coalition, Germany has a programme of "Mother Centres" which are managed by women and provide peer support groups, child care services and the chance to share experiences with others in similar circumstances. This has the effect of relieving the sense of isolation. The centres, although organized by women, are family and community-centred and involve all members of the family.
