Developing a set of techniques or means of a practical accomplishment. Alternatively: developing procedures used in the solution of theoretical problems; undertaking an interdisciplinary, philosophical or technological study of the means of activity through organization and regulation of its processes.

Well-honed methodologies are the so-called philosophical, logical, experimental and scientific methods.
