Establishing peace tax fund
Description
A peace tax permits taxpayers conscientiously opposed to participating in war to have their income, estate or gift tax payments spent for non-military purposes only. The percentage of an individual's taxes equalling the current military portion of the federal budget would go into a special trust fund, called the Peace Tax Fund. Money in this fund would be allocated to humanitarian governmental programmes.
Implementation
A Peace Tax Fund Bill was introduced in US Congress in 1972. Support in Congress has grown since its inception.
