The UNESCO Division of Earth Sciences and Natural Hazards works to expand knowledge in the fields of geology, geophysics and the distribution of the world's mineral and energy resources. A significant number of related projects are focused in developing countries, with the International Geological Correlation Programme (IGCP) providing networking in more than 150 countries.
