Ensuring implementation of labour laws
- Enforcing labour laws
- Strengthening labour inspectorates
Description
Ensuring implementation of labour laws involves establishing effective monitoring, enforcement, and compliance mechanisms to protect workers’ rights and promote fair working conditions. This strategy addresses issues such as wage theft, unsafe workplaces, and exploitation by strengthening inspection systems, imposing penalties for violations, and providing accessible complaint procedures. Its practical intent is to guarantee that legal labour standards are upheld in practice, remedying gaps between legislation and actual working conditions across all sectors.
Implementation
ILO assists governments: to ensure the implementation and enforcement of labour laws by strengthening labour inspectorates; to identify gaps in such laws and propose remedial measures; to advise employers and workers on compliance with relevant laws and regulations; to associate employers and workers and their organizations with the efforts of labour inspection services; to extend the coverage of labour inspection; to strengthen bodies concerned with the prevention of occupation accidents and diseases.
