Educational cramming
Description
Educational cramming involves the intensive, short-term memorization of large amounts of information, typically in preparation for exams or assessments. The essential action is rapid, focused study aimed at immediate recall, often to compensate for insufficient prior learning. This strategy seeks to remedy gaps in knowledge or time constraints, enabling learners to meet urgent academic requirements, though it may sacrifice long-term retention and deep understanding in favor of short-term performance.
Context
Educational cramming may be provided by cram schools or classes and may be an intensive learning programme used as a supplement to the education system in order to achieve an academic competitive edge. Educational cramming could be considered as being part of or becoming part of some countries culture.
Implementation
Long a tradition in the Far East, where academic competition is intense to get into top universities, the Asian type cram schools have increasingly appeared in the USA as well, following large scale Asian immigration. Only a few cram schools existed in the USA a decade ago compared to several dozens now in larger urban areas.
