Effective use of traffic management and information services has already reduced pollutant emissions, fuel consumption and journey time. The use of the "variable message signs" on motorways has reduced rear-end collisions by 30% (in fog by 85%); advanced driver assistance and anti collision systems have reduced accidents by around 50%.
