Designing techniques for analysis of integrated human development

  • Assessing influence of cultural factors on development control policies
  • Researching cultural factors in coherent development

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Studies may be undertaken in the population and among health workers to determine the influence of cultural, behavioural and social factors on control policies.

UNESCO is concerned with the preparation of methods, instruments and techniques for human development analysis, planning and evaluation which can contribute to the formulation and implementation of integrated development strategies. Quantitative methods and indicators for analysis, evaluation and social reporting are developed for the national and local levels. Research is undertaken to clarify interrelations between specific socio-cultural factors (value systems, forms of cultural expression, collective behavioural patterns and life-styles, production and organization methods, and consumer practices) and developments in the fields of science and technology, education and communication.
