Caring for the blind

  • Improving welfare services for the blind
  • Providing welfare services for the blind
  • Assisting visually handicapped

Description

Caring for the blind involves providing practical support, accessible resources, and adaptive technologies to enable independent living and social inclusion. Essential actions include ensuring access to education, mobility training, and employment opportunities, as well as facilitating orientation and communication aids. This strategy addresses barriers to participation by promoting environments and services that accommodate visual impairment, thereby remedying isolation, dependency, and limited access to information and community life. This information has been generated by artificial intelligence.

Implementation

The Braille League of Belgium has opened a Museum of Birds to give blind people a better idea of what birds look and sound like. The 31 species on display are sculpted from wood and placed in five miniature habitats: a garden, a wood, a cliff, open plain and near water. Visitors receive a cassette with commentary about the birds displayed, together with their sounds.
