Assessing regional agreements on marine pollution from land-based sources

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends assessing the effectiveness of existing regional agreements and action plans, where appropriate, so as to identify means of strengthening necessary action to prevent, reduce and control marine degradation caused by land-based activities.
