Assessing health and environmental risks of hazardous waste

  • Assisting with health risk assessments for hazardous waste

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends that international organizations should provide assistance to member states for assessing the health and environmental risks resulting from exposure to hazardous waste, and in identifying priorities for controlling the various categories or classes of waste.
