Agreeing code of environmental practice
- Declaring conservation code of practice
Description
Agreeing a code of environmental practice involves stakeholders collaboratively establishing clear, actionable guidelines to govern activities impacting the environment. This strategy aims to standardize responsible behavior, prevent harmful practices, and ensure compliance with environmental objectives. By setting enforceable norms and procedures, it addresses issues such as pollution, resource depletion, and habitat destruction, providing a practical framework for monitoring, accountability, and continuous improvement in environmental stewardship across sectors and communities.
Implementation
The member governments of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe agreed Code of Practice in order to conserve wild animals and plants and to contribute to the maintenance of biological diversity in the UN/ECE region and worldwide. The Code covers conservation priorities and measures including legislation, institutional arrangements, research requirements, education and training and public awareness. Indicative lists of birds and of mammals with a significant proportion of their global population and range in Europe are annexed.
