Unregulated police immunity
Nature
Criminal activities done by police officers are less likely to be punished than those of the general populace. Police are trained in the use of weapons, have personal friends among the officers and lawyers who may be required to testify against them, are well acquainted with the loopholes in criminal law, and can experience situations in which their lives depend on their personal ability to protect themselves. In some places, investigation of police activities is done by the police themselves.
