World statistics for 1980 indicate that the total fish catches for the world was 72.19 million metric tons, with 0.35 million metric tons in Oceania, 4.10 million metric tons in Africa, 6.80 million metric tons in North America, 7.85 million metric tons in South America, 12.37 million metric tons in Europe, and 30.29 million metric tons in Asia.
