Skiers thumb

  • Gamekeeper's thumb

Nature

Skier's thumb, also known as gamekeeper's thumb, is a tear in a ligament that attaches the thumb to the hand. This ligament injury commonly occurs in a skiing fall, at which time the ski pole forces the thumb to hyperextend. It is also often seen during ball sports such as when catching a football.
